About
It was a conversation with my sister had me thinking back to all of the things I’ve done over the years - selling my handcrafted jewelry, managing my family’s bed and breakfast, running a microbakery where I sold sourdough bread and other baked goods at the local farmers market, writing an ethical style blog, earning my MSW and working as a Christian counselor for women (I could go on, but you get the point).
I often felt like maybe there was something wrong with me that I pursued so many different things. But after that conversation, where she brought up these things as a positive, I started to see how they all tied together.
They all hold the value of living a simpler, creative life that is rooted in faith.
The more I realized that, the more I wanted to dig deeper. What does a life like that truly look like?
We each come from different circumstances, family dynamics, and experiences, so it might look different for each of us.
For me, it looks like prioritizing homeschooling my daughter, even as a single mom. Which means getting creative with the work I do and how I spend my time and money. Going for quality over quantity. Shopping local. And making things at home.
The biggest thing I realized is that slower living is not about finally arriving at this certain place in life, but rather making choices each day that reflect your values and allow you to live out your faith with intention and purpose.
I started The Slow Life Mercantile, because I want to inspire and equip women to slow down, let go of unnecessary expectations, and prioritize the things that really matter.
We want to fill our homes with beautiful, timeless, quality things that will last. And I want to help ease the burden of trying to find those things, while offering products that will help you create a space that is inviting, cozy, and inspiring, so you can spend more time paying attention to the people in front of you.
And it's not just the products.
Each collection is a curated shopping experience. I hand-select items that are meant to inspire a slower lifestyle. Each item is chosen to be used and enjoyed together to equip you to live out the slower, faith-led life you desire.
My mission with The Slow Life is to help women cultivate a life of purpose, connection, and simplicity.
I’m so glad you’re here :)
My favorite products
It's nearly impossible to narrow down my favorites, because I choose every single product with intention and purpose. But I will share 3 of the items that I first looked for when I started shopping for The Slow Life.
1. Beeswax Candles - I love the cozy glow of candles. But I just couldn't get comfortable compromising the air quality in my home for the sake of aesthetics. When I learned of the benefits of burning beeswax candles, I fell in love. Unlike the toxic burn of most standard candles, beeswax candles have been shown to purify the air. Unscented beeswax candles naturally give off a sweet, subtle scent of honey, resulting in a relaxing, therapeutic glow you can truly feel good about.
2. 100% Cotton Throws - No matter the time of year, I like having a cozy blanket handy to curl up with. Cotton provides just the right amount of warmth and breathability that you just don't get with synthetic fabrics. This has become much more important as I get older and can more easily get overheated. Plus they add a beautiful, lived-in feel to your home.
3. Bible Study Journals - Journaling has had a huge impact on my own healing and growth, especially when combined with Bible study and prayer. The journals I selected are both beautiful and useful as they offer prompts to help guide your study and apply scripture to your life, so you can more fully live out the purpose you were created for.
